You can quickly create a "Welcome to the Class" video within Blackboard. The only equipment needed is a computer with a microphone and webcam. Go to the "Videos" section of this site for instructions and a video demonstration. This uses of the "Kaltura Media" mashup with Blackboard.
Some Macintosh browsers, in Mountain Lion (Mac OS X 10.8) do not allow the grade center to be scrolled so you can see additional grades. Firefox seems to work correctly. Safari and Chrome do not seem to show the scroll bars. There is a system wide setting that will display the scroll bars in Safari and Chrome. Follow these steps to make this change on a Macintosh running Mountain Lion (Mac OS X 10.8).
This has a side effect that all of your windows will now show scroll bars if there is material hidden beyond the windows edges. It changes the behavior of all windows, not just the grade center. On the Blackboard Home page (http://miami.edu/blackboard) you see the "Available" course sites. Instructors can see course sites that are "Unavailable" by clicking on the "Courses" tab. Students and instructors can show the "Unavailable" sites on the Home page with a few easy clicks. WRITTEN instructions

Blackboard data used to be updated once a day, in the evening. It is now updated in realtime, as changes are recognized in the CaneLink system. If you experience problems with this automated updating system, please contact the Blackboard Help Desk at blackboard help.miami.edu or UPDATE 2014-08-25: Use "Qwickly" to make your course sites available. Much faster and easier than the instructions below. Quickly is located on the Blackboard Home page, at the top of the left-hand column. New course sites on Blackboard are created "Unavailable." Faculty can work on the courses, but students cannot enter them. The faculty member can make the course site available when they want students to be able to get into it.
The process is very simple, requiring just four clicks. The steps and a one-minute video that demonstrates the process are included below. Click the "Read More" link to see the steps and/or view the video. If you would rather have us do it for you, send a list of the courses that you need made available to [email protected] and we will be happy to set the sites available. |
